Good morning!
Happy almost-Mother's Day, friends. Whether you're the mom in question, the kid scrambling for the perfect gift, or the partner who swears you've got it handled this year, this edition is for you.
We've rounded up a few of our favorite ways to celebrate the moms of Lake Country and a couple of ways for moms to celebrate themselves, too. Because let's be honest: if anyone has earned a little quiet, a little pampering, and maybe a new hobby on a Tuesday afternoon, it's her.
This week's Making Waves is brought to us by Southern Laser Medical Spa, who is generously offering 10% off any service to all moms throughout the entire month of May. Whether she's curious about their newest treatments: OPUS Plasma, the Trifecta Red Light Bed, T-Shape 2, or a luxurious body scrub or wrap, there's never been a better month to book.
We've also got tickets to the perfect post-Mother's-Day date night at Festival Hall, gift ideas from Lake Country Books & Gifts that beat another bouquet, and a heads-up about Mahjong for Beginners starting Tuesday, a new excuse for moms to gather, learn something fun, and laugh a lot.
Pour the coffee. Let's get into it.
💛 Holly
A Mother's Day thank-you to every mom in Lake Country - 10% off any service, all month long in May.
Tucked just down Harmony Road in Eatonton, Southern Laser Medical Spa has been Lake Country's original med spa since 1998. Locally owned and operated by medical professionals, they've grown from a single-purpose practice into a full-service medical spa and healing arts center, and this May, they're saying thank you to the moms who hold it all together with 10% off any service through the entire month.
That includes their newest additions, which are worth a closer look:
OPUS Plasma: An FDA-cleared, non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses plasma technology to stimulate collagen production and cell regeneration. It targets fine lines, sun damage, acne scars, stretch marks, and uneven skin texture, with lasting results and no surgery.
Trifecta Red Light Bed: A 12-minute, full-body session using medical-grade red and near-infrared light. Backed by decades of research, red light therapy supports collagen production, reduces inflammation, eases joint and muscle tension, improves circulation, and boosts mood and energy. The Trifecta bed is the only full-body red light therapy bed FDA-cleared for both healing and fat loss.
Body Scrubs & Wraps: Genuine pampering using organic Farmhouse Fresh products. Choose from the CBD Watermelonaid Body Wrap, the Vanilla Bourbon Hydrating Wrap, the Rasmopolitan Jet Tub Scrub, the Southern Sweetness Scrub, the Citrus Mask Wrap, or the Sunny Toning Cactus Wrap. Each one finishes with skin that feels completely renewed and most include a scalp massage that, in their words, makes the outside world disappear.
T-Shape 2: A medical-grade, FDA-cleared contouring system that tones, tightens, and smooths the body, face, and décolleté. It combines four technologies: low-level laser therapy, bipolar radio frequency, endodermic massage with suction, and mesospheric activation, to firm loose skin, reduce the appearance of cellulite, and lift facial contours. No surgery, no needles, no downtime. Most clients see visible changes within just a few sessions.
Whether mom wants to refresh her skin, melt into a wrap, or sculpt and tighten without surgery, there's something here for her and 10% off through May makes it a little easier to say yes. Gift certificates are available, too, if you'd like to surprise her.

Show Mom You Care — At Lake Country Books & Gifts
There's a copy of I Love You to the Moon and Back sitting on a shelf at Lake Country Books & Gifts that pretty much sums up the whole point of Mother's Day, doesn't it? It's the kind of book a grown daughter buys to read to her own little ones, the kind of book a grandmother slides across the counter with a knowing smile. And it's exactly the kind of small, thoughtful find that makes Tammy's shop the perfect Mother's Day stop in Lake Country.
Tucked into Harmony Crossing in Eatonton, Lake Country Books & Gifts is more than a bookstore. It's comfy chairs, friendly faces, and shelves stacked with everything from literary fiction and memoirs to cookbooks, faith-based titles, and works by local authors. The children's corner alone is worth the visit if there's a little one on your list. And if mom's tastes run more toward journals, candles, mugs, or a sweet faith-inspired keepsake, the gift section will not disappoint.
Not sure what she'd love most? Grab a gift card. Tammy will help her pick out the perfect book, or three, when she comes in to redeem it, and that little outing becomes part of the gift itself. (Trust me, moms love an excuse to wander a bookstore in peace.)
A few ideas if you want to hand her something tied with a ribbon:
A picture book to read with the grandkids
A novel she's been meaning to start
A pretty journal and a good pen
A mug, a candle, or one of the small gifts Tammy keeps tucked throughout the shop
A Libro.fm audiobook subscription for the mom who listens on her morning walk
Whatever you choose, you're shopping local, supporting a family-run business, and giving mom something far more thoughtful than another bouquet from the grocery store. Stop in, say hi to Tammy, and let her help you put together something she'll love.

The Jazz Legacy Project: Louis Armstrong
Editor's Pick: The Perfect Gift for Mom
If you're still hunting for the right Mother's Day gift or you just want to give her something that beats another candle… I've got you. The Jazz Legacy Project: Louis Armstrong is coming to Festival Hall in Greensboro on Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m., and it's exactly the kind of evening moms remember long after the flowers wilt.
Here's the pitch: Louis Armstrong - Pops - is the father of American popular music. From his trumpet masterpieces in New Orleans and Chicago to vocal hits like Hello Dolly and What a Wonderful World, just about everything you've ever hummed traces back to him. This show features trumpeter, singer, and Armstrong scholar Michael Cruse, with drummer Justin Varnes narrating Armstrong's life and music between songs. It's not a tribute concert trying to recreate the originals, it's a 90-minute celebration of the man and the music, designed to bring even casual jazz listeners inside the mind of one of the most influential musicians who ever lived.
Pair it with dinner in downtown Greensboro beforehand and you've got a full evening, the kind of gift that says I thought about this.
Slip the tickets into a card on Mother's Day morning, mark Thursday on the calendar, and let her look forward to it all week.
🎷 The Jazz Legacy Project: Louis Armstrong 📍 Festival Hall · 201 N. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 📅 Thursday, May 14 · 7:30–9:00 p.m. 🎟️ Tickets at festivalhallga.com
